The Association for Solidarity with Asylum Seekers and Migrants (ASAM) was established in 1995 in Ankara as an independent, impartial and non-profit association to assist refugees and asylum seekers living in Turkey. Since the date of its establishment, ASAM continues to work in coordination with the European Union and United Nations agencies as well as with public institutions and organizations in order to find solutions to the challenges encountered by asylum seekers and refugees. ASAM is a non-governmental organization working only for its founding purpose based on the principles of reliability, accountability and transparency, that successfully represents Turkey in international platforms in the field of migration, makes a difference, provides an example and receives appreciation.
For 24 years since its establishment, no investigation, lawsuit and no allegation of any kind has been brought forth against any of our Association’s directors or activities. In this respect, the claims made against ASAM in the aforementioned news do not reflect the truth whatsoever. We would like to submit for the information of the public that during the difficult period currently experienced by our country, which hosts the largest number of refugees in the world and has assumed a historical responsibility in this area, ASAM will continue as before to make contributions in the field of migration in cooperation and cohesion with all relevant public institutions and organizations.
Last of all, we strongly condemn any attempts towards bringing ASAM under any kind of suspicion based on ambiguous statements within the issues currently forming the political agenda of Turkey. We also kindly request from the public to take into consideration the damages that those trying to misguide public organizations without any evidence-based information could have on the dignity of the Republic of Turkey and not to pay any attention to attempts directed towards defaming our deeply rooted organization, its staff and its devoted works.
Respectfully announced to the public.
Association for Solidarity with Asylum Seekers and Migrants
